Seasoned Veteran, or Middle-Aged Putz?
Semi-Lucid Rants By James on 9/29/2006 10:59 AM

I have ranted on how age is quickly creeping up on my generation.  While in college, it was odd to see “up and coming superstars” who were my age splash onto the scene for any sport.  They were in the process of making millions while I was still making pyramids with beer cans and balancing my checkbook down to the last 7 cents.  It was at this time when I had a fraternity brother write a check for me for 16 cents to Columbia House (one of the few times I actually paid that company) since I didn’t have that much in my account.

Semi-Lucid Rants By James on 9/28/2006 4:15 PM

It can be difficult to understand different dialects of our own language – whether it be southern or northeastern or British (AKA the King’s English).  In Scotland, it’s extremely difficult to decipher their version of English, which contains words we simply aren’t familiar with.  Slang is not only regional, it’s also generational.  If any of use said “Gag me with a spoon” to someone who is 18, they’d give you a blank stare, much like the response I got when I made a “Rock the Casbah” reference to a new college grad the other year.

Final thoughts on Las Vegas
Slices of Life By James on 9/25/2006 4:12 PM

Now that I’ve had a week to mull over my first trip to Las Vegas, a few things come to mind.  One thing is for sure – unless you absolutely hated the place, you HAVE to go back at least for a second time.  With so many places bombarding you all at once, the first trip really is an orientation.  Trying to digest everything you see is simply too much.

I was there from Thursday evening to Sunday morning which was probably one day too long for a newbie, especially someone who doesn’t gamble.  ...

Atlanta, by way of Milwaukee and Chicago
Slices of Life By James on 9/19/2006 12:17 PM

I’m still trying to gather my Vegas thoughts, so those should be online later this week.  In the meantime, I figured I’d go out of chronological order and talk about my arduous flight back from Vegas.  By no means is this going to be a rant against airlines.  Weather-related issues are beyond anyone’s control.  This is simply a recap of my day’s events on Sunday coming back from Vegas.

Normally I don’t use connecting flights.  Ever.  Unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Hopefully I'll have something in writing tomorrow.  I'm still recouping from a 12-hour, 3-city, lost luggage, running through O'Hare, no food ordeal yesterday.

ATL-LAS
Slices of Life By James on 9/14/2006 8:22 AM

Today I leave for Vegas for the first time.

Pray for my soul.

The plan, for now, is to return to Atlanta on Sunday night at least semi-clothed and half my dignity still intact.

I'm either gonna love or hate this place.  Stay tuned.
