Welcome to my mind

Video iPod
Miscellany By James on 5/31/2007 8:26 AM

Having had my video iPod for almost a year now, I’ve come to some conclusions about certain iTunes pricing practices.  First, the 99 cents per song marketing strategy was one of the better things to come to fruition for the consumer in the past decade.  Yes we could go on another tangent in how artists seems to get less money with this distribution method but that is more a fault of the crooked record companies and not because of the iTunes business model.

Time for a double dose of pessimism
Semi-Lucid Rants By James on 5/29/2007 8:47 AM

As someone who is passionate about environmental issues along with common “be good to your planet” sense, I am thrilled to see large retailers like Home Depot pushing the new types of light bulbs that last up to thirteen times longer than an incandescent bulb.  Being also a pessimist at heart, I wonder what Home Depot’s “angle” is for long-term profits on this item.  Yes, the initial cost of people paying slightly more for these bulbs will provide a nice padding of the bottom line for a few years as people switch over but what’s in it for them after that?  After the initial purchase, where do they make the same kind of profit?

Weekend photos
Miscellany By James on 5/21/2007 5:03 PM

We had an afternoon party last Friday at a coworker’s house that was company-sponsored.  Not only was the place perfect for entertaining (pool in the backyard, ping pong table, pool table, darts, card table) but the room that had the pool table had a bunch of characters from the Dr. Seuss books mounted on the wall as though they were hunting trophies.

Silenced
Semi-Lucid Rants By James on 5/21/2007 11:55 AM

Folks, we’re running down a slippery slope when it comes to free speech in this country.  It’s bad enough that radio personalities on “terrestrial” radio have been fired with an alarming frequency but now this has spilled into satellite radio.  Last week, Greg “Opie” Hughes and Anthony Cumia of the Opie and Anthony Show, were suspended by XM for comments made the previous week by a homeless man they had on the show.  Not only are they off the air for 30 days, the channel that’s dedicated to their broadcast and re-broadcasts (202) has removed all traces of their shows during this period and are airing the much inferior show (Ron and Fez) that is normally on from 12-3 and rerunning it nonstop.

1440 West Diversey Parkway
Slices of Life By James on 5/18/2007 1:31 PM

Yes, we definitely moved a lot while in Chicago but as you read the previous entries you can see there were legitimate reasons each time.  As I stated in the 640 West Wavelend entry, the owner was selling right around the time we were getting married and we moved to avoid having to worry about finding a place to love as soon as we came back from our honeymoon.
