It can be argued either way that we have progressed or regressed when it comes to how people dress at work. Before I delve into this, let’s discuss a key overriding factor to all of this. Regardless of how one dresses, it’s your work output and quality that counts the most. Someone can be a snappy dresser and be an utterly inferior worker with a lack of work ethic. The smartest guys I’ve come across in the I.T. world tend not to be the most formal dressers and it makes no difference since they’re creating software code to make the world an easier place to live and work in.

Note to those not familiar with me – this is written strictly tongue-in-cheek. I would never sell my daughters to the highest bidder…unless it was a really insane offer that we couldn’t refuse.

Two Buck Chuck and WTF? |

I’m about to head to Raleigh for work the remainder of the week so I’ll try to post something Thursday and Friday but no guarantees. Since I need to leave for the airport soon, today’s post are two random photos.
The first is a bottle of Trader Joe’s wine that I accidentally knocked the cork into the bottle. Long story short, we got this cool wine opener where it grabs the neck of the bottle and as you pull the lever 180 degrees, the corkscrew goes into the cork and then pulls it out, all with only one motion by the user. Not being a wine expert, I’m not sure where the Trader Joe’s wine ranks among sophisticated wine drinkers but the general public seems to really like it. I’m curious if any wine enthusiasts out there will say either “This stuff is very decent for its price” or “Dude, that shite is one step above fortified wine.” To my untrained palate, the merlot and shiraz taste fine bu ...

A shortage of hoppy beer |

This is already common knowledge in the beer geek kingdom, but we’re about to face a sizeable price increase for almost every beer made. Two of the main ingredients, malt and hops, are in high demand and prices have skyrocketed the past year. For a typical six pack, expect to see a 50 cent to 1 dollar increase in what you will pay as of this month.
Why has this happened?&nbs ...

As much as I love seeing movies at the theatre, being a parent puts a serious cramp in the frequency in which one can actually get to a theatre. This isn’t a huge issue since I enjoy seeing a movie on my good ol’ 57-inch high def television, but there are certain movies where I really would like to get out to see.
For me, movies since Ally was born fell into two categories.

My apologies to whichever blog came up with this first, as the person who sent this to me didn’t know where it originated, but here is a fun game. I've never posted things like this on my blog, as most are cheesy (and this one is too) but this one struck the right cord with me this morning.

Chicago vs. New York |

The gauntlet was thrown down on Wednesday in the Comments section of the blog. The topic was bottled water but there was a reference by my good buddy Ian about how superior New York style pizza is compared to Chicago style. Another old school Chicagoan (Jason’s Mom – don’t worry, I won’t use your real name!) reminded us that flat square pizza is the original Chicago style pizza.

Those of you who know me know that I am big on recycling. I even take my newspaper that I read at lunch back home to put it in my recycle bin. Until we got our new water cooler hooked up at our new office, I took home my used water bottles to place in the recycling bin too. We can debate until we’re blue in the face whether or not items marked for recycling are actually recycled, so let’s just assume they are. Some communities and companies are obviously better at it than others and no system is perfect.

Have you Made It? |

There have been a few instances this past month where I’m reminded of people who have “Made It”. Regardless of whether you like that artist or athlete or actor, the fact remains that if you say “Bend it like…”, you know that person is talking about David Beckham. If someone says “Yo, Adrian” in a stroke-addled tone, you know it’s a reference to Sylvester Stallone’s ‘Rocky’ character.
