Until a few years ago, the mere mention of spring training would make me drool in anticipation. Now that that has tempered off a bit, I attribute it to several potential factors, with the possibility of it being a combination of them.
1 - Baseball means springtime and springtime meant warmer temperatures. When you grow up in the & ...

Oh, I’m bitter today. I’m fucking agitated. I don’t let the teams I root for fortunes affect my emotions any more, but I think last night was an exception. I’m in a foul mood and cursing all things Indianapolis, that little turd of a burg in the middle of a state that smells like cow shit and doesn’t look much better. I need to down some coffee in order to have that wonderful elixir called caffeine elevate my spirits.

One Minute, 44 Seconds, Mr. Piano Man |

With the Super Bowl come all the odd bets that Vegas allows people to wager on. The one that got my attention was the over/under on the time it will take Billy Joel to sing the National Anthem, which is currently at 1 minute, 44 seconds. If there’s one thing I don’t like about sporting events, it’s when singers decide to drag out the anthem as long as possible. You can tell by the second line whether you’re going to be done in 2 minutes or 3+ minutes. I’m all for artistic expression, but leave the anthem to its basics and don’t add any notes to it, otherwise it comes across as self-serving.

While last year’s travails with Comcast wound up with me getting a free season of MLB Extra Innings (since they run on the same channels as NHL Center Ice), I was not pleased when I read a press release last week. In the release, Major League Baseball announced that their Extra Innings baseball package would only be available on DirecTV beginning next year. I think this is a mistake for many reasons.
First, the NFL is also in ...

Today is all about football so let’s begin with a certain football team based in the Midwest that’s going to the Super Bowl and I’m not talking about the Colts and their (ironically) horse-faced quarterback!! While there was no way I would have been able to use my tickets and actually get up there these past two weekends, it was probably for the best since I am recuperating from being sick since Saturday. Here’s where I begin to question the existence of a God. What kind of God would allow one of his minions to be so weakened from illness that ...

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that their March 17th game will be played on green ice in commemoration of St. Patrick’s Day. While I think it’s a novel concept, depending on the shade of green they use, it could be a real challenge for the players to follow the puck. I think it will be even harder to follow for the untrained hockey fan’s eye.
Thinking of the color of the ice got me to thinking about ...

Instead of being able to bask in the glory of the Bears finally returning to the NFC Championship game after too long of an absence, the entire country has turned its love fest and stroke-a-thon towards the New Orleans Saints. Hey, as a human interest story, it’s a nice byline that the Saints are one game from the Super Bowl, but let’s not let reality get in the way of sentiment.
For one, the city of

Last Saturday’s Gladiators game had an abnormal start to it. For 95% of the games, I work the home penalty box. One guy who also works most of the games is one the goal judges behind the net that the Gladiators shoot at twice. He has always been reliable in terms of showing up. Anyway, right before the puck is dropped, the referee always looks at each goal judge and they flip on the red light so he knows it’s working. As he looks to the home goal judge, we notice no one is there! The guy who is sched ...
