An extra Hard drive for those in need
By James on 11/30/2006 10:16 AM

There have always been trinkets of all sorts that advertise a company’s existence.  Some are funny, some are really lame, some are cheap while others cost more than what you’d expect.  Going along with this, my wife gets free schwag in the hospitals she works in all the time from pharmaceutical sales reps.  Something that I’ve been using at work is a coffee mug with the drug Lexapro’s label and logo on it.  Lexapro is used to treat anxiety and depression so it’s always a good conversation starter.  People here have some genuinely interesting trinkets on their desk, so this f ...

It's never a good day to drive
By James on 11/22/2006 4:59 PM

There used to be one refuge from the bad commutes in Atlanta but that has finally disappeared too.  It used to be the Friday morning commute, for whatever reasons, generally was hassle-free.  This is no longer.  The only days where there is a respite from bad traffic are holidays and if the exit you enter the highway is past where a major accident has occurred.

An Uneasy Quandry
By James on 11/21/2006 5:26 PM

I have to write this entry as a cleanser to my conscience.  There will be no naming of names, as I don’t want to denigrate the dead.  A terrible thing happened to a guy I used to be a coworker with last week.  From what the police can gather, he set fire to his apartment and then blew his brains out.  He was in his late 40s and single.   There are several possible explanations as to why he did this to himself.

Fun with photos
By James on 11/17/2006 9:59 AM

I’ve scanned the birthday invite below to see if I’m not the only one who is mildly disturbed by the name of the company.  In addition, the drawing is sort of creepy too.  Who in their right mind would take their child to a place called Bounce N Bob’s?  Maybe it is a legit place but I think it’s just a cover for “Fondlin’ Frank” who would love little kids to "bounce and bob" on him.

Two completely unrelated thoughts
By James on 11/14/2006 10:04 AM

I really had to use self restraint yesterday on my drive into work, but it’s not from what you might assume to be a case of road rage on my behalf.  Our office campus, which is a huge area with 6 buildings, is heavily wooded in some areas.  The landscaping crew is pretty busy this time of year trying to just stay even with leaf removal.  Now that we’re in the peak leaf-dropping season, they have resorted to putting HUGE piles of leaves in various parts of the drive through the work area, which they then pick up later in the day.  These are spaced about 500 feet from each other so it's tempation after temptation after temptation as I drive into work.

Vandalized shirts
By James on 11/10/2006 9:49 AM

I haven’t had much luck with good service lately; from Comcast to my fraudulent contractor neighbor being a few examples, and something minor happened to me that once again has me rolling my eyes skyward.  I have a lot of long sleeved cotton shirts that are quite time consuming when it comes to ironing them, so I generally tend to send them to the dry cleaners every 2 or 3 rounds of washes or so.  This saves me a LOT of time ironing and since I’m, to be nice, anal, it probably takes me longer than most to be satisfied with an ironing job.

The lighter side of religion and politics
By James on 11/7/2006 12:11 PM

Don’t worry, I won’t be talking about politics today, but I did have a minor difficulty in voting this morning.  I had completely forgotten that they had moved me to another polling place from the last election.  Absentmindedly and sans coffee in my system, I went to the church where I had last voted.  They brought up my voter record and informed me that my district now votes at another church.

The Wiener-Dog Wiener-Nationals
By James on 10/30/2006 1:00 PM

The park by us was busier than normal on Saturday morning and I had initially attributed it to the Saturday morning kid soccer leagues playing.  Then I noticed there were a bunch of display-style tents pitched on the basketball court.  As my daughter and I were playing catch, I noticed an unnatural amount of wiener dogs passing by us on the way to the tents.  It was then that I realized it was a wiener dog convention.

Now, it was memorable enough to see 200+ wiener do ...

5 items - 0 things in common between them
By James on 10/20/2006 10:21 AM

Every time you order a song off iTunes, you get a confirmation email from Apple regarding your purchase.  Sometimes the title of a song or album just doesn’t look right when placed elsewhere.  Take, for instance, this classic Beastie Boys song I purchased.

The intro to the song randomly plays in my head, where a girl asks her teacher “Professor, what’s another term for pirate’s treasure” and the reply, in a deep male voice is “Well, I think it’s Booty (record scratch)… booty… (record scratch) booty… (record scratch) booty."

Anyway, the bill made me ...
