While I’m fighting writer’s block, enjoy the pics I took with my cameraphone from last Friday at a Decatur brewpub called Twain’s on one of my rare nights out on the town.
I thought this was a rather good shot of the beer list. The "holey" wood you see above are normally used to hold wine/champagne bottles at an upside down angle.

For those of you dads who have daughters, you will understand this. For those of you who only have boys, you’ll breathe a sigh of relief. For those of you future dads who may have girls, let this be a cautionary tale. To make your kids happy, you let them do certain things (within reason, of course).

Whether you regard coincidental occurrences as just that or divine intervention, what happened here on Friday in downtown Atlanta was noteworthy no matter what your perspective. As with any metro area on a weekend night, the center of the city was holding the usual assortment of conventions and sporting events. One of those sporting events was the SEC basketball tournament. Had the player from Alabama

I can’t say enough good things about being across the street from a shopping/restaurant/retail complex by my work. Working in the suburbs can blow because you can’t get to anything without driving so it’s nice to have an exception to this. When I get the chance at lunch it’s the best place to take a little walk too since it’s one of those newer shopping complexes that are pedestrian-oriented and not just a box building with a giant asphalt parking lot that bows to the Almighty Vehicle.

There was no blog entry yesterday because we were at the hospital getting Ally’s ear tubes removed. She had them put in at age 2 and they never fell out like they’re supposed to (usually 6 months to 1 year) so we had to schedule surgery for them to remove them. It’s a quick process (10-15 minutes) but it is surgery and she’s placed under anesthesia so it does involve your standard anxiety about your child for any kind of surgery.

Sticker Recall |

Our eyebrows were raised this past week when we got a letter from Volvo with the subject “Important Recall Notice”. Megan has a 2008 V70 which allows us the roominess of a minivan without the stigma of actually driving one. As most of you know my utter dislike of minivans, it should come as no surprise that we opted for a station wagon instead. It’s black and since Megan drives it I have dubbed it The BatMombile.

This is s time-sensitive post which is why I have two entries today. As I’ve expressed my love for Trader Joe’s in the past, I had a disturbing experience today while eating a sandwich bought from their Midtown location yesterday. With 3 bites left to go in my Grilled Steak with Onion sandwich, I bit down on something hard. I didn’t think much about it as I assumed it was a stray piece of bone from the meat or something like that.

Remember when that tsunami claimed over a hundred thousand lives the other year yet there were no animal corpses to be seen? I was fascinated by that story, cementing the fact that animals do have a "sixth sense" or whatever you want to call it when it comes to external danger.
I was woken up this morning (pre-dawn) by the loud chirping of a bird. During the warmer months, that’s the norm around our house a ...

Saturday night action! |

In no way is today’s post a complaint or whiny entry. This is simply a statement of the facts of this past weekend. In what was to be a small break from our insane schedule the past few months (Megan is wrapping up her Master’s degree so there are zero days off from either work or clinical or class – Saturdays and Sundays are just another day for the near future), my sister-in-law was to take the girls for a sleepover. As fate would have it, she came down with the flu on Thursday night and is still barely able to get out of bed so our planned, rare Saturday night off never came to pass. Anyone who is a parent knows this is standard operating procedure – the best plaid plans are waylaid 50% of the time du ...

Sometimes forwarded joke emails hit a bit too close to home. I got one from a friend the other day and it was your standard “You know you’re old when…” As I finished the list of 25, I realized “Holy mackerel, even though I’m laughing at these because I can relate, am I now becoming so lame that these are almost all things that are true to us 30-something-plussers?”
Let’s go down the list that was sent to me and you can make a ...
