Random bouts of mass hysteria and overhyped mundane events

Photos from the week

In the spirit of trying to be positive today, I figured I’d post some phone pics I’ve taken the past few days.

Here is one looking out from our office building.  The leaves are at peak color down here.

The world lost a giant smile on Sunday.

In life, you have several categories of acquaintances.  You have family, distant family, friends, school friends, worker friends and friends of friends.

Whew
By James on 10/20/2008 4:18 PM

Far be it from me to bemoan when others say they’re tired, as it can be hard to start the week firing on all cylinders.  Let me see how many of you parents can relate to our Sunday.  While this might have been a busier-than-normal afternoon, most of you will say “Man, I’m glad it’s not just me who has days like this.”  Most of this stuff were fun tasks but by day’s end you realize “Wow, I need a weekend to let me rest from this weekend.”  The funny thing is we're not one of those "every minute together with the kids has to be structured and planned" kind of parents.  Normally the weekend just happens organically depending on the weather and the kid ...

New Hampshire postscript
By James on 10/13/2008 3:29 PM

Like all of my trips, I can’t wrap up my writing about it until I give some general impressions that are solely the opinion of yours truly.

I found it interesting in the naming of just about every restaurant included the name of the place plus “& Tavern” or “...and Pub” or some other combination of words that included “Restaurant Name & Drinking Establishment”.  It remind ...

New Hampshire pics!
By James on 10/8/2008 10:43 AM

More stories to follow.  I figured I could at least get these out there so you can start associating some of the places I mentioned yesterday.

Play the slideshow.  A lot of the pictures were taken in the car so the resolution isn't the greatest but I wanted to give you an idea of just how many beautiful vistas we were seeing even in between making many stops to get out and gape.  And yes, it was the passenger taking those car pictures, not the driver!!!

New Hampshire trip - Day 1
By James on 10/7/2008 5:19 PM

Do you ever have those days where the timing is just perfect for everything?  Well, if you stretch that timeline for an entire weekend, you can maybe come close to our 10th anniversary weekend in northern New Hampshire.  From the on-time plane ride up to Boston to the weather for that time of year in New England to the absolute peak of fall foliage where we stayed to everything else that we did, I don’t know if I ...

A sneak peak
By James on 10/6/2008 8:32 PM
I will have more detailed entries in the coming days but here is a sampler from my iPhone of where Megan and I were last week while celebrating our 10th anniversary.  White Mountain country in northern New Hampshire is as close to heaven as one can get during the fall.

The Notchland Inn where we stayed.  Nestled in White Mountain National Forest, it's as storybook a setting as you can get.

Crawford Notch - just a few miles north of where we stayed.

A good decade together
By James on 10/1/2008 4:34 PM

There won’t be any posts Thursday or Friday but that’s a good thing.  Megan and I will be on our way to a bed and breakfast nestled in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  Our 10th anniversary is on Friday and she agreed to do something that I’ve always wanted to do – be in New England during peak fall foliage season.  We both can’t wait to get out of here tomorrow and take a nice scenic drive from Boston
