 Haphazard thoughts for Monday Minimize

There was an odd, to me, advertisement plastered on one whole side of a MARTA bus that seemed to be borderline tasteless.  It was an ad for bail bondsmen and there were 3 black employees shown on the ad – 2 male and 1 female.  What made the ad seem to straddle the line of good taste and crass commercialism was their tagline – “Free At Last”.  Obviously I don’t speak for the black community, but were I black, I would think that paraphrasing Martin Luther King’s famous speech and applying it to getting out of jail isn’t what the civil rights leaders of the 1960s had in mind.  To me, it would be as tacky as a black barbecue joint having a billboard that would say something like “I Have a Dream….to eat at Smokey’s Rib Shack!!!!”

Do we really mean it when we say the phrase “Tell (whomever) I said hi”?  How often do you actually relay the message to your significant other / family member / friend when someone else gives you that command?  Is it, instead of a Rhetorical Question, a Rhetorical Request?  A simple salutation that you actually remember said person’s family members’ names?  Or are you interested in letting that third party that you indeed said hello?  And has anyone ever replied to you “No, I won’t tell so-and-so you said hi.  They’re mad at you right now and want nothing to do with you.”?

With all the technology that has shrunken in physical size for just about any apparatus, it is just now reaching the AC Adapter world.  While electronic items like cell phones, TVs, speakers and any other “guy toy” has gotten smaller and better, the AC adapter has remained the clunky, unwieldy size of a brick.  Not being an Electrical Engineering major, I have no idea why technology took so long to catch up for this apparatus in terms of size.  We’ve gone from cell phones the size of a Harry Potter paperback to the size of 10 business cards stacked on top of each other but we can’t get our phone charger to be smaller than the phone itself?

Yes, the ad is truly tasteless -- but the reality of it is, blacks are overrepresented in the prison population when compared to the general population. And the female population has been growing too.

PS Tell Megan I said hi!

Hmmph - so what you are saying is that every time I say "Tell the girls I say Hi" that you don't tell them? Now Grnated Ally has no clue who I am but I am hurt, deeply (on the inside) that you don't feel that relaying my good wishes is a priority in your life. When someone asks me to say "Hi" I do so with gusto. I keep a list in my pocket at all times of who I need to say "Hi" to and for whom and I then write down their response. I've been the courier for whole conversations between tow people which have taken years to finish and I find your lack of social grace appauling!

PS - Tell Megan that the rash has finally cleared up!

You'll be hearing from them, for stealing my schtick.

Overrepresented! So now the prison population is an elected community? Would you prefer an equal opportunity system that sets limits by quota? James the mover can't go to jail because he is well represented there already. You on the otherhand seem to be in a category that is lacking. Feel free however to become a serial killer or child molester since the white population is well represented in those categories. Bleed for the poor minority criminal for he is innocent in the eyes of... Oh yeah, he was found guilty!

As a techie in one of my previous lives I could tell you all about it, but since a cell phone is a 'guy toy', you should probably ask your wife instead. (Dork.) Okay, it's a power-type conversion going on inside your adapter, nothing to do with the ever-smaller (computing) transistors/chip scribing size.

Passing on those salutations? Yes, please do. They're not rhetorical, but you can change the actual words from 'Say hi to Tim' to 'my 75 year old auntie sends her regards'.

I have a friend who does this to me all the time... If we're having a conversation and I happen to mention a family member or another friend, he's always saying "Tell (them) I said hi" I always tell him I will, but then I never actually do. It's a ridiculous request...

I totally agree with ya on A/C adapters... Wanna see an example of "ole school" tech? Recall the movie "Wall Street", and the scene when Gordon Gekko is on the beach talking on a cell phone the size of a t-pole relay box...

I have this Co-worker that no one liked to talk to and it was always my responsibility to carry the regards of others to him. But I never did. Didn't think James would miss hearing from the people who sit right next to him. Oh by the way Sherri , Jake, Randall, and Sam, said Hi...like six months ago.

Beating my children with a smaller adapter won't produce the same results. My vote is...make them bigger.

Donna - just use a brick, my dear. They can make lovey rashes, too...

The wife and I have found that a little souvenir hockey stick works real well for child beating. Especially when the little wise-asses decide to covre their butts with their hands. 2 minutes for slashing!!! Hee hee.

A hockey reference and it's not started/entered by JAMES!!?! WTF. I am stunned and yet impressed. (Unless...did you guys plan this to blunt the hockey reference/appearance?)

Nah, no conspiracy here. It just so happened that the other night while we were doing our semi-annual "Clean out the spoiled kids' toy room" ritual the 4 year old (most likely to be arrested before he's 15) mouthed off to the wife who was holding said stick in her hand. So she whacked him in the ass with the hockey sitck, which is all wood BTW, while calling him a little cat-fucker under her breath. Hey I did it too, I got all 3 in one sentence!

Hhaahahaaaaa. Not sure whether to name a whacker or wanker... I'll settle with - good thinkin' on her part. Fostering appreciation for sporting equipment and a little satisfaction to 'boot'. ;^)
