When I reviewed my Blackberry Pearl, I made the offhand comment that the camera was something I could care less about. While it’s still not a “must have” for me on any phone, I will gladly admit it’s really come in handy on quite a few occasions. Whether it was the MARTA train on top of a truck in front of me on the highway or a hockey linesman on his knees in the hallway or some of the ugliest uniforms known to man, this camera phone has been great for little blog snippets. I try not to rely on it too much, as I’d like to think my descriptive capabilities are capable of painting a mental picture, but sometimes the photos really do help.
Sometimes little things remind you how we truly must be in the greatest country on earth. Yesterday in Atlanta was a real foul time weather-wise. The office campus I work at contains 6 main buildings, all surrounding a little man-made lake. The 2 garages that are intended for the 2 tall buildings (mine being one of them) are between 200 and 800 feet depending on which part of the garage you enter and which of the 2 main buildings you’re going to. Of course, having an umbrella would be just fine for this walk, but why walk when you can be completely covered by a roof that covers the entire walkway?! (See photo at the end) On this campus, you can actually, using the lobbies of some of the buildings, walk the entire inside perimeter and not get wet, as these walkways are everywhere.
So here I am in a country where I don’t need an umbrella when it rains, an industry that pays me well enough so my family lives comfortably, and I have a great view of the skyline from our 22nd floor office. Of course, I was reminded of our silly excess when I saw one of the lawn crew this morning using an air blower to disperse puddles in the driveway. What a completely superfluous and ludicrous task, indeed, not to mention an environmental no-no. But life is good today. I need to enjoy it before we get invaded by China and become their servants. Laugh at me now, but teach your kids Mandarin.
