Now that the ECHL is ready to begin their Finals, one of the teams, the Dayton Bombers, can’t get the dates they want in their arena due to prior scheduling.  Here is part of an article that ran in the Dayton Daily News.

“Meanwhile, the home playoff schedule continues to be a source of irritation. Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) are scheduled for the Nutter Center, but the Bombers won't play at home on Friday or Saturday for the third time in four playoff series.

The Nutter Center is unavailable Friday, June 1, because — get this — the Gem City Rollergirls have a bout against the Minnesota Dagger Dolls. The Rollergirls switched times with the Bombers on May 12 but have no intention of doing it again. "It destroyed our fan base," Rollergirls bout coordinator Roger Shivadecker said.

"We would love to see the Rollergirls succeed," Bombers coach/co-owner Don MacAdam said. "But we live and die on good dates."”

So let’s analyze sections of this partial statement.

“…scheduled for the Nutter Center…” – The Nutter Center?!?!  I looked it up since I initially thought it might have been a peanut butter-based product but it turns out it’s named after Erwin J. Nutter.  It would also be a good name for a psychiatric wing of a hospital.

“…the Gem City Rollergirls have a bout against the Minnesota Dagger Dolls…” – I will give this much to the female roller derby leagues that are around.  They have great team names and even better player names.  Dagger Dolls sounds like the kind of girl that would be into goth metal and assorted kinky sex but is also likely to stab you in your sleep.

The Rollergirls switched times with the Bombers on May 12 but have no intention of doing it again. "It destroyed our fan base,"” – So not only are these ryot grllzz not going to bend over and take it again, they are mad at having done it even once for the Bombers.  Maybe it did hurt their fan base although I’d assume their fan base isn’t as large as the Bombers, nor is it as large a revenue stream for the arena.  I’m willing to guess the Rollergirls don’t have 36 regular season dates in that arena plus playoff games.  Regardless, they have the Uno Draw Four card for this round and they control their own fate.

"We would love to see the Rollergirls succeed…But we live and die on good dates." – Translated, he’s saying “These (c-words) are dicking us over and we hope they all suffer wounds to their unmanicured girl-gashes the next time they have a match.”

When the team you run doesn’t have priority over female roller derby matches, it's time to realize you’re simply plankton in the food chain of life.

Jimbo,
What an excellent, concise, and thorough breakdown of what would normally have been a ho-hum (puns intended) story. Ever think of a career in journalism?
