Today is Audience Participation Day (and also Listen To James Whine Day).  Most of you who know me are aware of my not-quite-hatred-but-we-definitely-don’t-kiss relationship with hot weather and this week surely makes me wonder the wisdom of moving south.  Career-wise it was the right thing to do at the time but when the town you live in defies the laws of physics and has humidity in the 1000-2000% range, it makes me wonder what others see attractive about hot, sticky weather that I don’t.

For those of you lifelong southerners, or perhaps you’re a northerner with dreams of living in a warm weather city, what exactly is appealing about days where the temperature exceeds your internal body temperature?  Is there anything attractive about not being able to move outside without sweating or having breathing difficulties?  I guess I fail to see the advantage during weeks like this over a day where a refreshing blanket of snow  makes everything seem new again, not to mention the air is always fresher in winter.

Now, let’s not compare the upper 80 degree temperatures of blissful exotic locales like a Caribbean island.  I’m talking about cement islands that also double as Humidifiers and Smog Machines like Houston and Atlanta and other big cities in the dirty south where it reaches into the 90s with regularity, sometimes for weeks at a time.  Los Angeles, for all its smog, at least has temperate weather and access to an ocean, not to mention it's hard to break into the porn biz if you're not living there.  What’s the appeal elsewhere?  I can understand living in these areas for certain periods of time but I can’t ever imagine retiring in this region.

Before you try to convince me that warm weather is better than cold, read the link provided at the beginning.  In the meantime, I’ll ride out the heat wave this next week indoors.  October can’t come soon enough.

Man, was I wrong - I thought you had run out of things to complain about in NOV of 05. You've managed to bitch for another two years - congrats. And now you've rehashed old whines. Live free or Die James....The NE is calling! Maybe Ally won't have a southern drawl, but she may drive you crazy with "I'm gonna pahk the cah mawm and dad."

I honestly hesitated about being the stereotypical "old man complaining about the weather" guy today but this week's forecast has me cringing in my soon-to-be-sweaty clothes.

Denver - Summers are warm with little humidity. Winters have a couple of big snowstorms a year and then 3 days later it has melted away. Winters are mild with very few bitter cold days. Sunny skies 300+ days a year. World class skiing 1 or 2 hours away. Could it get much better?? <br>

I hear ya James. I'm even thinking that it's just a little too hot to ride into work. <br>Well, at the very least I'm adjusting my commute time to get into work before 7am and leave hopefully before 3pm.<br><br>As for the appeal of Atlanta ... I'll admit to not caring too much about the weather until I started going through it @ 70mph, but this summer is by far the worst one in a long time. Summer of '03, ATL didn't break 90 degrees but once. Living here isn't as bad as some other hellholes ... like Valdosta.<br><br>But yes, I'd like snow. I'd rather be riding all bundled up with 12v electricity being routed through my clothing and sweating in this heat on I85.

Do I need to go beat up on Tarb to get the HTML rendering fixed?

San Francisco and the Bay Area. I need not say more. 'Course, you'll pay a million bucks for a shanty next to the freeway and between an all-night motorcycle repair place and a massage parlor, but the skies are mostly clear, and even when it gets hot it's rarely humid, and the fog is always hovering on the coast, ready to roll in and cool things off. Plus we have hills and the Golden Gate Bridge most likely won't fall down if it made it through the '89 earthquake. Oops! Did I mention we have earthquakes? Not very often, though, and I never lost a cow in a crack in the earth.

You're right James- It gets so hot here in Virginia- I'd rather be back in Michigan- I seldom used A/C at night- it was so comfortable- If you had stayed there, we all could have been neighbors, could have drunk Faygo, and put Sander's on the ice cream- And then we could breathe! Cold is better than hot- you can always add layers of clothing. Doesn't work the other way around.

What is wrong with a steamy afternoon? Just after it rains, the steams seeps up out of the concrete and you can smell the natural smell of the woman of your dreams! Ya gotta love it. 2-3 showers in a day.<br>Wanna little cheese with that whine James?<br><br>BTW, are you the guy starring in the Holiday Inn commercials or is that an older version of you?

Jason's Mom: It's Syl's job to tell us how everything is perfect in the bay area, quit invading her turf.<br><br>Even though we're going through a bit of a hot spell ourselves right now, I've gotta say I'm quite happy with the Chicago weather. Our winters aren't nearly what they were back in the day, I only clear the driveway 3-4 times a winter now. We don't get way-laid by Hurricanes, Nor-Easters or hugungous snowstorms. I can do without the extended cold snaps that sometimes occur, but those also aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. We get cool thunderstorms in the summer and a change of seasons that makes fall remarkable to see.<br><br>Chicago-the best kept weather secret in the country.

Bah - Chicago - home of the -30 actual temp and -90 windchill. While I lived there I had to call into work a few times "too cold" to come into work. No way I was standing outside waiting for a bus in that weather.

I loved winter in Illinois- Just put on those layers, and breathe clean air- It's almost 100 here in DC- I just walked outside for 15 minutes, and my shirt is filled with sweat-and insects- I'm counting the days for it to snow, and I pray for global cooling:)

So you're saying it snows in Detroit in August?!<br><br><br><br>The internet has changed Adult Inter-net-Tainment, James. You can make it anywhere! Um - but only if you "qualify".<br><><><><><br><br><><>I was righter, Erich - when James's not allowed out in public anymore - no material. :¬) <><><<><><br><br><br><br> ><><><<><br><br>Gdamn html'n like a felon, Meatball. You can't sell this shit on the inside!<br><br><br><br><br><br>Let's see - 9 AM 30 blocks from the beach. 54º on my deck thermometer. If the sun breaks through out here today it will top out at - say 68. It will be sunny downtown all afternoon though and maybe hit 78º - note: in the full sun only!
