Apple needs to be careful or they’re going to restore my faith in humanity and I’m not sure if I’m ready to take that kind of leap just yet. Like I had stated in a post last month, while I hate to do rebates of any form since I’ve been burned before, I decided to see if my printer would be reimbursed like Apple’s rebate promised when I bought my MacBook.

Much to my surprise, when I mailed the rebate form the week of October 8, I got an email confirmation that same week on October 12. It said my claim had been received and to expect it to be processed in 6-8 weeks. At that point I was already impressed since usually the first correspondence with a rebate firm is them saying you missed some crucial step in completing the application.

I still fully expected there to be some hitch, yet I got a follow-up email on October 27 saying my claim had been processed, the rebate check has been mailed, and to call Apple if I didn’t get it within 30 days. Even at that point I said “Yeah, right, whatever, I’m sure it will get lost in the mail.”

Well, smack me on my derriere and call me Sally but the darn check actually came in the mail yesterday! A successful rebate! And it came in less than a month after me mailing the initial request! If I didn’t already love Apple and my MacBook, they completely have a convert in me now.

So for today, AND TODAY ONLY, I will look at things with a Pollyanna attitude. I’ll give people the benefit of the doubt, I’ll be optimistic and hopeful, devoid of sarcasm, and guffaw heartily. Then my head will explode and you’ll have one less blog to read.

Is that what you people really want?!?!?! Perhaps I'll visit the DMV office today to get some inefficiency back in my life.

I did see that announcement. :) I also missed the Leopard upgrade by 2 days too but I'm still in the honeymoon phase with Apple so it's all good...for now.

You're such a good member of the collective. Apple's bordering-on-random upgrade cycles for hardware and software are usually one of the first things to annoy new converts from the Winworld. Of course, random upgrades are also the #1 excuse of people who will never switch but want to appear "open minded," so it's hard to tell how many customers they actually lose with these policies.

I look at it like this - any new computer I get will be outclassed by a shinier version months later. Thankfully the MacBook I got is/was the top end for its class so it will be functional for a while.

The Douchebag Neighbor's house is under contract! If all goes well, they'll be out at the end of November.

Hey Sally, HP sent me a note saying I had not sent in everything I needed for my rebate. What a bitch!

WTF?!?!?!? Can't some of you follow simple directions?? Fill out the form (legibly), include a UPC, a copy of the receipt and don't forget to fill out the postal address correctly. A 10 year old could do that.

...Sorry for the venting

KB's: I had the same thought. I don't know how many rebates I've received form such varied places as Best Buy, Office Depot and Ace Hardware. Copy of the receipt, UPC code from the product and correct mailing addresses is pretty much all it takes. I can't think of any time I've had a problem with the process.

Re: Apple-tastic By James on 11/6/2007 11:30 AM
I have to disagree. Best Buy was the reason I stopped doing rebates. It's been 7 years since I bought appliances from them but after having followed every step and only having them reimburse 1 of 4 (all were eligible, they sent the one with the least value). You guys must be part of the Lucky Club. Trust me, a lot of times it doesn't matter if you've filled everything out properly. They bank on people not following up with a "rejected" claim, thus pocketing that money and perpetuating the scam.
