I like to think that I am aware of my surroundings most of the time. When in a crowded area like a mall, I try to not be the bottleneck point if it all possible. Part of being aware is paying attention to what is in front of you.

As I was exiting the main portion of the mall into the Nordstrom’s store where my car was parked nearest to, I averted my eyes to their holiday display, as I was curious what they would put up since their display area had something that caught my attention prior to Thanksgiving.

I was near the center of the entrance and began to get closer to the holiday display on the right. I felt my right foot begin to slip a little bit and I looked down to see I was all of a sudden in the middle of a PUDDLE OF VOMIT. Yep, the bottom of my foot couldn’t have been placed more squarely in the center of this puke pile if I had purposely aimed for it. After the obligatory muffled cursing to myself, I dragged my shoe through the plush Nordstrom’s carpet until my Puke Shoe was back to normal. Had I touched anyone in the next minute after that, they would have received a static shock equal to the lowest setting on a taser gun.

I’m not sure if stepping in puke or dog poo is worse. I guess with puke my shoe definitely didn’t smell like it would have had I placed it right into a dogpile. When that happens, you have to manually wash and rinse your shoe or the smell will linger forever.

Regardless, my superhero-like senses failed me yesterday.

I vote that puddle of vomit is worse than pile of poo. Reason being, is that vomit carries a higher probability of causing the stepper to slip and fall into said pile. than does poo. Unless you're running full speed and hit the crap, you're usually on a surface (grass) that has more traction that the smooth tiled floor of a department store, where wipeouts, even at low speeds, can occur.

What? Doesn't Atlanta believe in covering their puke piles in the red wood shavings we all used to see back when we were in grammar school? I wonder how they market that stuff? Puke Picker-upper?

I think the puke pile was brand spanking new because an employee was walking over to the "hot zone" with a walkie talkie right after I stepped in it.

Well, today I decided to check out your blog. It's been real quiet on our "alternate" e-mail chain since Pete changed jobs, so I thought I'd hang out on here with Syl, the General, and the Cap'n, etal. And what a great day to do so - a very festive discussion of the relative merits of stepping in various disgusting things. Perhaps I can look forward to a more indepth analysis by Tim V. on the relative viscosities of body excretions... I'll be back, but not during meal time...

Bruce, I promise this blog is 98% bodily-secretion free! See the previous entries. :)

Vomit is worse to step in, poo is worse when hit with a weed wacker.
http://www.commondiscourtesy.com

Bruce - hi buddy!!

So...um....were there big chunks in it? Because if you don't chew your food, you could puke. Okay - and what color was it? You're lucky it wasn't spaghetti or red wine puke, although those would have been more festive as befits the season.
