I’m sure it probably is standard operation procedure with almost any child safety product now but I noticed an interesting card that came with the new “booster chair” that Ally has graduated to for our cars.  Here is the text of the card.

IMPORTANT

In case of a recall, we can reach you only if we have your name and address. You MUST send in the attached card to be on our recall list.

We’ve already paid the postage.

Do it today.

It almost sounds like an exclusive club that you brag to other parents about – “Yep, we’re officially on the Recall List now”.  It’s a company that is known for its children’s products so they must have been burnt with either lawsuits from families or this is now the aftermath of all these defective and/or dangerous products from China (Creating Hazardous Items for North America).

It doesn't instill a lot of faith in the product, but as long as the seat bottom isn't filled with asbestos powder I think we should be ok.  I think.

It's a problem that's been around for some time. When my son was little, our first stroller had a warning label that read "Remove child before collapsing stroller". I can only assume that someone sued the manufacturer after Junior was horribly traumatized. It takes a village to raise an idiot...

I think that's a really creative way of getting you on their mailing list (which they will sell/trade with other makers of child-related products). They don't need you rname and address to let you know about a recall, the news media love to publicize those for car seats.

I had sent in one of those cards back in 1999 when leasing my car. Three years later, I received a recall notice. I brought it in; it was a minor defect, and GM fixed it for free. With so many policitians who are also attorneys, and all the products liability legislation we have, it is understandable that companies have these recall procedures.

Okay, but by the time the recall goes out -three years later- for a child's seat they have outgrown it and sold it for $5 at a garage sale.
