Rotation, Rotation, Rotation Minimize

This post will probably just confirm my OCD for the masses but I need to see if others are as meticulous as me. Besides being a neat freak (although that has changed somewhat at home since taking care of two kids trumps organizing one’s kitchen counter at times), I’ve always been a huge fan of The Rotation.

“What is The Rotation?” you ask. Simply put, it’s when you take the clean items out of your dishwasher and place them at the bottom of their appropriate pile. Instead of placing the 4 large dishes you have on top of the other 8 in your cabinet, you place those 4 at the bottom of the pile. Silverware isn’t placed on top of what’s there already. You pick up the existing forks and place the newly cleaned forks on the bottom. Same thing for glasses; you move the existing unused glasses to the front of the cabinet and place the newly cleaned ones in back.

This allows an even rotation of food/drink items so nothing is overused. Yes, a lot of those items don’t age fast but there are certain things that you can absolutely tell are older and have been through the dishwasher a lot (plastic cups are a good example). I stand by my principle – an even number of washes for each item.

Look, I’ve gotten a lot better about certain quirks which almost incapacitated me as a kid. Each night I had to peek under my bed in MULTIPLES OF FOUR. If I wasn’t satisfied after the fourth peek, I had to do four more. Sure, that might be nuts but I never ever got attacked by monsters or bedbugs or the bogeyman so I think my plan worked quite well thankyouverymuch.

Anyone now think that my job as a web tester doesn’t suit my personality? Like I tell anyone willing to listen – “You can’t spell ‘analyst’ without ‘anal’”. Although us anal folk prefer the term “organized.”

I share your Monk-like tendencies, Cap'n. I prefer to think of it as detail-oriented as opposed to insane.

Way, way too much work. Lift a stack of 8 heavy plates to put 4 underneath? Not this girl. And while each category of silverware has its own compartment, I just toss the clean ones in -- no stacking the forks or spooning the spoons.

Maybe you should switch to paper plates and plastic tableware?

I know you, you live in my neighborhood, your name is Mike Broussard! Right? Oops, sorry, must have you mistaken for our OCD neighborhood guy.

As to the Organized, what does is start with Organ, like your playing with your own.

I myself am not compulsive in the least when compared to some others. The capitalization of your rotation lifestyle is also interesting. [grin]

You seem to have far too much room for maneuvering things inside of your (glasses) cupboard. Just keep trying to keep your kids free of the need to do....whatever meaningless/repetitive tasks help keep you in control or distracted from...oh who knows, random disparate quirky actions of the life and the universe.
So, in a few years, when the kids are unloading the dishwasher as a chore, just get them to put the stuff away in the cupboard/drawer - okay? You can just leave the room or something....and 'fix' it later. Glad you've been able to control your own quirks more ---- our darling Dork, at least you are not frozen by the needs.

Rotation, rotation, rotation...when IS baseball season starting up again?!
I have quote written down somewhere - when asked why he reads, it is to help quiet the incessant noise in his head.

Jeezus dude, you ARE a freak. Poor Meghan. In all honesty I've thought about the rotation thing too, especially with plates. But I've never actually acted on it. I'm just really not that concerned with equal washing of the dishes. Besides, doing the rotation means all the dishes will wear out at the same time where if you don't rotate, you'll have all those bottom dishes in reserve, thus allowing a transition period when you can get new ones. OK that's enough thought on that subject. Where's a post about boobs?

I accomplish the rotation by simply dirtying up every dish before I get around to running a couple of loads in the dishwasher. OCD for slobs?
