We had about an inch left of milk in the gallon jug as of last night but I didn’t make my normal run to the grocery store to get more. Why would I let a household staple run so dangerously low, you ask? Because I wanted no part of what I knew would be a madhouse rush on all things dairy, bread and water since we were about to get some snow flurries totaling less than an inch.
Even though the ground was too warm to let the initial part of the storm accumulate much, our back deck was perfect for Ally and I to make snowball after snowball after snowball. It was the perfect wet snow for snowballs and snowman making. Since this was the first snowstorm Ally could recall, we took advantage of it even though I got home after dark. It’s been 5 long years since we’ve had measurable snow down here and for those of you who know me, a little piece of me was dying each snowless winter. I remember how much fun I had as a kid when it would snow and I feel like I’m depriving my daughters of the same joy. What stinks is that for the few native Atlantans I know, they remember having at least one major snowstorm a year growing up – something that’s a rarity now.
Anyway, Ally and I made a mini snowman. The picture quality at night on my cameraphone is terrible but you get the idea. Yes it was a minor storm down here but for Ally it was the coolest thing ever.
For my northern friends’ amusement, I’ve included 4 additional pictures taken from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution today. These are reader-submitted photos of the Snow Event of 2008 and anyone who has spent any amount of time up north in the winter will laugh at what constitutes a “snowstorm” down here.
Our mini snowman. In this light, he looks more like a character from Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'.

This one was titled “Watch Your Step”. I’m not making this up.

Wow, it’s gonna take him at least 10 seconds to wipe all that snow off before he drives.
It almost covers the grass!

“Time to hunker down and ride out this storm, Gertrude. We have enough jam and crackers in the cellar to get us through this nightmare, right?”
