We had about an inch left of milk in the gallon jug as of last night but I didn’t make my normal run to the grocery store to get more.  Why would I let a household staple run so dangerously low, you ask?  Because I wanted no part of what I knew would be a madhouse rush on all things dairy, bread and water since we were about to get some snow flurries totaling less than an inch.

Even though the ground was too warm to let the initial part of the storm accumulate much, our back deck was perfect for Ally and I to make snowball after snowball after snowball.  It was the perfect wet snow for snowballs and snowman making.  Since this was the first snowstorm Ally could recall, we took advantage of it even though I got home after dark.  It’s been 5 long years since we’ve had measurable snow down here and for those of you who know me, a little piece of me was dying each snowless winter.  I remember how much fun I had as a kid when it would snow and I feel like I’m depriving my daughters of the same joy.  What stinks is that for the few native Atlantans I know, they remember having at least one major snowstorm a year growing up – something that’s a rarity now.

Anyway, Ally and I made a mini snowman.  The picture quality at night on my cameraphone is terrible but you get the idea.  Yes it was a minor storm down here but for Ally it was the coolest thing ever.

For my northern friends’ amusement, I’ve included 4 additional pictures taken from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution today.  These are reader-submitted photos of the Snow Event of 2008 and anyone who has spent any amount of time up north in the winter will laugh at what constitutes a “snowstorm” down here.

Our mini snowman.  In this light, he looks more like a character from Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'.

This one was titled “Watch Your Step”.  I’m not making this up.

Wow, it’s gonna take him at least 10 seconds to wipe all that snow off before he drives.

It almost covers the grass!

“Time to hunker down and ride out this storm, Gertrude. We have enough jam and crackers in the cellar to get us through this nightmare, right?”

This is why we hate you. But we're willing to overlook it if you just keep the Cajun food coming and leave that "War of Northern Aggression" bunk to your grandpappy. Love, the North.

That fist picture withe "watch your step" is priceless. I'm going to have to pass that around. So, did you get to stay home because the office is closed due to the weather?

You are so lucky! That's more than we have here in DC!

Oh. This is 'measurable' snowfall?! Hahahaaa, I searched in vain for the dangerously icy step...

What did you use for the eyes & buttons on your snowman? They look like cow pies. Not that I've ever seen a cow pie, but, still...

The eyes and buttons are acorn shells. Mouth and arms are twigs. Hat is a small clay pot we had that Ally uses outside.

Speaking as someone who spent 5 1/2 hours driving home in a December snowstorm which delivered 16 inches of snow not even a month ago and having another 10-12 inches fall 5 days ago, please accept my heartfelt and sincere F*CK YOU! to all of 1d10t southerners. Your whole state probably shut down too didn't it?

It is to laugh. I've coached lacrosse games in more snow than that, in May. Love your mini Frosty.
