For those of you dads who have daughters, you will understand this. For those of you who only have boys, you’ll breathe a sigh of relief. For those of you future dads who may have girls, let this be a cautionary tale. To make your kids happy, you let them do certain things (within reason, of course).
Girls do girly things. They change clothes a lot, play with dolls, and do a lot of dress-up stuff. Part of that involves hair. Brushing it, combing it, putting rubber bands/scrunchies/barrettes in it – all standard practice for young girls. While Ally hates to put anything in her hair except a headband, she’s been on a “let me play with Daddy’s hair” kick as of late, which I of course oblige her.
There’s never been evidence of her handiwork…until this week when Megan walked into the room and saw the end result. After her initial burst of laughter that I thought would tear her abdomen apart, she had the sense of mind to find the camera. What is shown below I really have reservations about making public but Megan dared me to do it.
For those of you who are childless, do not point the finger and laugh, as this could be you in a few years. Parents do lots of things for their kids and a lot of time it’s downright silly stuff done with the sole intention of putting a smile on your child's face. While having girls instead of 2 boys might mean I have fewer trips to the ER, it can have other consequences such as having your hair done by a very zealous 4 ½ year old that is into making ponytails right now.
On the bright side, at least I don’t have a minivan!!!

A very proud daughter and her dad, who at the time was cursing the invention of photographic technology.
