I will hopefully have pictures for tomorrow (there are delivery delay issues right now between my Blackberry and certain mail servers).  In the meantime here are some postscript thoughts to our small vacation to Tybee Island.

  • Sign of the times – As we drove on to the island, I noted “Hey, look, cheap gas!  It’s only $3.99 here!”
  • True to my northern roots, I always pack different clothes for different temperature swings.  As it was hot the same time way up north, you can imagine how hot and humid it was in the deep south even a half block off the ocean.  The long sleeved shirt and jeans were never unfurled.
  • This actually wound up being fine, as every restaurant we went to on the island seemed to have a very causal dress code.  I don’t recall seeing anyone not wearing shorts at any of the places we were.  One added bonus of restaurants by the water is having outdoor seating that maximizes the enjoyable experience.
  • For someone like me who is a novice at boogie-boarding, I stayed in relatively shallow waters; usually about chest deep until I learned to somewhat master the waves.  The problem I had was disembarking, as my skinned knees can attest to.  Scraping your skin on sand is not a recommended skin care option.
  • I will readily admit to being in even shallower water that that on our last day solely because we saw two jellyfish that had been beached with the morning tide.  One was about the size of a softball which was plenty large enough to freak me out (not to mention jellyfish are gross to look at).  My mind played tricks all day any time I felt a foreign object in the water.
  • We had a nice swimming pool and hot tub in the condo complex.  Thankfully it was in perfect working order until our next to last day when we found out it was closed because someone pooped in it.  Instead of shocking the water with chemicals and letting it sit for 24 hours, they drained the pool all day Monday and we still filling it up when we left Tuesday morning.  As for the fecal content in the pool from Thursday to Sunday, I simply choose to remain blissfully ignorant.
  • I didn’t burn!  30/45/80 sunblock –we had it all.  The Pale Blue Scottish skin survived FIVE days on the beach and poolside!  That’s a record, folks.

Then I got back to the cesspool that is Atlanta and my mood almost instantaneously darkened.

Yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh......We're all supposed to just put aside our disbelief and pretend like those skinned knees are from boogie boarding.....the closest you get to boogie boarding is pickin' your nose and wiping it on others... (Blaser)

Not to kill your fear buzz, but [hello?!] those jellyfish are not the "foreign objects" in the water, YOU are. (You air-breathers and spine-holders on vacation near the salt water -- so arrogant!)

Ariel's Dad, you are correct. It is I who is the foreign object. LOL. :)
