Periodically I’ll encounter a driving maneuver that is so insanely dangerous, illogical and ignorant that I interrupt my regularly scheduled blog posts to recap the scene of the crime.  Today was one of those days.  You can follow along on the crudely illustrated Google Map + MS Paint illustration below.

Ally and I were headed north on Church street (which would be the bottom of the map) and our route has us turn right at North Decatur Road.  As you can see, there is a right-turn-only lane.  We were still a ways from it and all of a sudden I noticed that a car had gone from the left turn lane on North Decatur (heading west) and had entered the wrong side of the street into the right-turn-only lane!  Keep in mind there are cars facing him in the 3 lanes next to him – 2 regular lanes and one left turn lane.  He then proceeds to U-turn and eventually ended up in the left turn lane.

So basically this Nimrod, instead of simply turning left in a lane he was stuck in and then making adjustments as such, decides that he would rather face oncoming traffic rather than drive an extra 100 feet to correct his situation.  In addition, there’s a large amount of “blind” area on that right turn lane, so from his illegal vantage point, he was lucky there were no oncoming cars as he wouldn’t have seen them until it was too late.

Hopefully this person hasn’t reproduced yet, as I am a firm believer in Natural Selection.  Thankfully we were 10 seconds behind his pace; otherwise I might have had an unexpected head-on collision with an idiot who shouldn’t have a license.
