While I’ve seen lots of praying mantises in my time, I’ve never seen one the size of the behemoth that settled on our front door last evening.  He seemed to like the place, as he was still there after 11 when I went to bed.  The pictures maybe don’t give a lot of scale but he was in excess of 6 inches.  Maybe he flew in from the tropics as a result of Fay?

Looking outwards to the gentle, yet quite creepy, intruder within the safe confines of our house.

Forced perspective! OMG, we’re being attacked!

That thing must be 2 or 3 feet long...perhaps more!

Looking straight down on him through the glass panel.

Great B-movie effect with the forced perspective! Two thumbs up. I don't know what it is about mantises, manti, about more than one mantis, but I've always found them to be among the coolest bugs around. Almost noble somehow. And I hate bugs. I'd rather wrestle a grizzly than encounter a spider. If that makes me gay, then slap my fanny and make me watch "Will & Grace"...

Reminds me of one the bugs from "Starship Troopers"...hehe

To be totally off topic. Good luck TSAC with the rain and ocean breezes. Hopefully they are just that.

It's probably a "she" - they're the bigger ones. Cool pics!

Labor Day update - she is still on our front facade! Sometimes it will be facing down, other times its upwards. But its been there now then entire weekend. I think it likes us. Or it's draining our brain power. Freakin' aliens disguised as insects.

The lurking -study for weakness- before the attacking.
