Like most adults, my foray into Myspace a year or so ago was a misguided attempt at social networking that really only caters to adolescents, musicians, and perverts. If you’re not in one or more of those groups, Myspace has nothing to offer you. Unless you enjoy getting spam friend invites from Russian whores.
I do have to admit having jumped headfirst into Facebook once it became available outside the college arena. It’s interesting to see people’s frames of mind when they post updates. But be forewarned, embarrassing high school pics of you might get posted by others! No college pics yet although I’m sure that will be rectified now that I’ve posted this. Go to my Facebook link on the bottom right of this site. Join if you haven’t. It’s fun. Honest. But I also understand others' reluctance at having everyone know your beeswax.
To add to my social networking craze, a friend got me hooked on Twitter too. So now I send a status update via Twitter which then updates Facebook. Of course, I tend to do this via the Facebook and Twitterrific apps on my iPhone, thus adding another layer of communication. Then you have this damn blog and also my LinkedIn profile for professional contacts and I start to wonder who the hell really wants to use all these?
I have a feeling that one day I will become too overloaded and flip off a switch and “go dark” for a few years. Until then, these are the networks I use. As always though, be careful when you’re an “open book” online like me. Believe it or not, there still are things I don’t discuss or post online and never will. Anything you see on these pages related to me is simply superficial and should be taken with a grain of salt (except for my LinkedIn page, which is strictly professional).
