Based on James' post on facebook today, I would like to get everyone's opinion on the phrase "jump the shark" or any other overused phrases you would like to discuss. I think jump the shark has jumped the shark!

Re: More Thread space By Meatball on 2/10/2009 11:49 AM
I am SO tired of "jump the shark". I never understood it to begin with ... and once I figured out what they meant I decided it was stupid.

Re: More Thread space By Meatball on 2/10/2009 11:50 AM
So ... in a near situation ... can we declare "breaking the fourth wall" to be overused?

Re: More Thread space By Erich on 2/10/2009 12:06 PM
The new hip term is "Nuking the fridge" which is used when a storied franchise (ie- Indiana Jones from which the term is derived) has outlived it's coolness and become a parody of itself.

Re: More Thread space By Meatball on 2/10/2009 4:04 PM
That's a good one, Erich. I like it.

Re: More Thread space By James on 2/10/2009 4:18 PM
I've already incorporated it into a Facebook status today. :)

Re: More Thread space By KB's on 2/10/2009 7:37 PM
"Setting the table"... Keep with the original, "setting the stage".

Re: More Thread space By Erich on 2/12/2009 10:24 AM
Seeing as James always liked to post pics of something he saw on his ride into work.....I saw a bumper sticker today that read "Yes, this is my Truck. No, I will not help you move." It made me chuckle...

I missed out on asking about Paraskevadekatriaphobia? Did you experience it yesterday? Anyone? Anyone?
Re: More Thread space By KB's on 2/14/2009 6:29 PM
The Paraskevadekatriaphobia made me get drunk and accidentally pee in the babies crib. Good thing he wasn't in it. I think I was changing his diaper at the time. I think its time to sell the trailer and move into a sweet foreclosure. This place smells terrible.

Huh?!?!

Re: More about "MyFace" book. By Syl on 2/18/2009 11:03 AM
Did you sign the Facebook petition, James? The 'I own your words/work even if you die' displays no comprehension for the higher consciousness of the interweb. I will admit to liking it when member or user outrage changes a (heartless is not the correct word, but it is close) corporate plan.

Re: More Thread space By James on 2/18/2009 12:05 PM
Syl, if Facebook wants to own my 140-letter status updates, they're more than welcome to. I don't put anything on there worth holding on to.

Re: More Thread space By Muuurph on 2/18/2009 6:33 PM
That was the first thing I said when I heard about the (now changed) policy "What are they going to do with it?" Does anyone really think the information they put on there is worth having the rights to?

A bunch of hullabaloo about nothing.

Re: More Sacrifice By Syl on 2/27/2009 10:53 AM
Thanks Saints. I'd say 'Happy Lent', but I'm sure that would be at least slightly inappropriate. So, um...cheers!

Re: More Thread space By KB's on 2/27/2009 1:01 PM
Not to be a heathen, but I am giving up for Lent.

Re: More Thread space By Erich on 2/27/2009 3:22 PM
I gave up giving up stuff for Lent a long time ago...I wonder if anyone has ever lent someone else some lint for their lentil soup during lent?

March marches on.

More Time By Syl on 3/9/2009 10:10 AM
Baseball baseball baseball. Some very good games and/but also some looo-ong drawn out innings on the WBC this weekend. Just a few more weeks now for us... ah, baseball. It's like a deep cleansing breath of take-it-easy...

Re: More Thread space By TSAC on 3/10/2009 10:11 AM
Yes, Syl, the Boys of Summer! Play BALLLLLLLLLLLLL!

Re: More pitching this year By Syl on 3/14/2009 2:15 PM
I'm even starting to like Randy 'too tall' 'formerly-with-a-division-rival' "left Seattle" 'old now/back hurts' Johnson. And may I pun that's a 'stretch' for me? Oh - so gosh darn funny!! Anyway, for the Giants rotation three of our five starters are Cy Young award-winners. Or they will be starters when the rosters are announced. This is amazing to me, plus the older winners are looking better than they did last year. Baseball. Every year I look forward to reading the stats page(s) as the numbers grow.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Re: More Thread space By Hi, my name is Deanna, I'm a James Blog Addict on 3/20/2009 6:58 PM
I think I'm slowly breaking my addiction to this blog. Only checking it maybe twice a week now instead of daily. I just can't quit you James.

Re: More Thread space By Erich on 3/23/2009 10:05 AM
I'm gonna start calling you Brokeback Deanna

Re: More Thread space By James on 3/23/2009 10:06 AM
On that theme, if you want to see me currently spit on my hand to penetrate my brain, you can see my updates on Facebook and Twitter. :)

Re: More Thread space By KB's on 3/23/2009 5:04 PM
Spit, penetrate and hand. I thought you wanted to stop the gay stuff on the blog.

Re: More Thread space By James on 3/23/2009 8:11 PM
Who says that the triumvirate of spit, penetrate and hand is relegated to just gay sex? :)

Re: More Thread space By Syl on 3/24/2009 8:50 AM
It's also about playing pool, right? Nine ball....?

Re: More Thread space By Sore Loser on 3/25/2009 12:21 PM
Your "updates" are not the same as your blog. I now have less chuckles and less thought provoking diatribes in my day.

Re: More no chuckles By Syl on 3/27/2009 8:52 AM
A rookie at work is moving us to a new network. I mean really, how would you know if the activity only transferred the information prior to October 2008? I guess you'd either check or you would have BACKED THE STUFF UP BEFORE YOU EVEN FREAKING STARTED. I had a diatribe (not at all thought-provoking) as soon as I got home yesterday. Oh what, you mean to say that moving my one main Access Point for wireless service impacts the performance results of my QA testing of our product, the wireless sensors? Gee fucking whiz. I could just test their functioning at 2 feet instead of 100 yards - of course that is hardly qualifies for a QA test/burn in. Today is going to be another long day - but ................................................................................................................................................................................................................ Happy Friday, folks.

Hi Syl!!!! Today's question I posed on FB/Twitter is "Can anyone tell me the purpose of mayo besides the empty calories and the ability to lubricate food to slide quicker down your gullet?"

Re: More slipping By Syl -exceeds Twit limits- as usual on 4/7/2009 9:29 AM
You sir, do not belong in the food industry. Mayo EMPLOYS people - oil and egg people and mixer makers too... No matter of the confusion that Hellman's (what the heck kind of Christian name is that, anyway?!) being named Best Foods (ah, much better) on the left side of the country. Mayo means work! Work is good for the Wall of Street.

Re: More Thread space By Syl -exceeds Twit limits- as usual on 4/7/2009 9:31 AM
Thank you James - and happy Opening Day to me! Go Giants - this could be our year - the recurring annual year of the optimist....

<looks to the left, sees a burnt out car>...<looks to the right, sees abandoned building>....<looks straight ahead, sees Syl hanging on the street corner looking for a blog fix>....This blog is starting to resemble Detroit more and more....;)

Re: More Thread space By Beisbol rulz on 4/8/2009 9:45 AM
[waves casually] Hey wait just a second now - that baseball stadium over there only *looks* like it's abandoned, depending on the season.

Re: More space, no A/C By Syl on 4/21/2009 9:32 AM
Okay - so obviously I don't care if it's just little old me changing the number from 40 to 41....from 41 to 42... I could use a little help, but if it IS up to me, I'm here. Third day in a row of 90 degree heat in SF - I might not last through 'Spring' in the City.

Re: More By Syl on 4/28/2009 10:18 AM
42. Hmmm maybe I'll move the bookmark down a bit. Waaaahh.

Re: More Thread space By James on 4/28/2009 10:19 AM
Syl, now Rich AND TSAC are on FB/Twitter. I hate to do the ol' peer pressure thing, but I'm just saying.... :)

Re: More Thread space By Erich on 4/28/2009 4:06 PM
Rich on Twitter? Like I wanna know how many farts he's blown (didja hear about the guy who made a methane sensing chair pad that automatically Twitters when he farts? True story!)

Re: More Thread space By KB's on 4/29/2009 10:30 AM
Syl, time to do the Facebook. You know you want/need the Pale Blue Scot Fix

Re: More Thread space By Syl on 4/30/2009 10:23 AM
Oh come on you are all twits now? I might go freakin facey sometime. Maybe it's ALL the PRESS coverage they get here. I read the news and am ill with all the coverage and the old(er than myself) farts like the news anchors - 'We're tweeting.' Ooo we are so very hip. I'm getting my makeup applied before going on camera. What. Ev. Er. It's nearly annoying enough to start a rant... oh hee - I'll just ;^/ instead. KB - I know I want the Pale Blue Skinny Sweater But - I still resist the magic. It's the Scottish in me to suffer and ...um...avoid the sun...and yeah - ....drink...

Tamales. Tamales are where it's at.

Re: More Thread space By sl -- Still a-clicking and a-posting on 5/21/2009 9:08 AM
I like tamales a whole bunch. I do not like sauerkraut - and please, unless you're Canadian and like Black Velvet paintings (not that there's anything 'wrong' with that) - call it Scotch. Or call it brandy and ginger ale...not a bad baseball sneak-in combination.

OMG - the Meat beat me (for a change, right -- hee!) I checked in on the 31st and moved on. Hi, honey! (and hello James! Tire of twits...?)

Re: More Thread space By James on 8/4/2009 9:40 AM
Syl, you are missing a WORLD of Tweets by ignoring me in the new medium. :)

Re: More Thread space By Meatball on 8/4/2009 11:58 AM
We'd really prefer to to elaborate on sticking the finger in the bunny's butt ... more than 140 characters worth.

Re: More Thread space By James on 8/4/2009 11:59 AM
This is what Meatball is referring to - http://twitter.com/HonchoGrande/status/3093373296

Re: More.... Talk talk By Syl on 8/6/2009 8:51 AM
I should perhaps have asked - is there nothing about which you still desire to write more than 140 characters? There are stunted truncated things and then there's communications of more than a single note. Exercise in brevity versus essay and composition. Maybe I don't think you should limit yourself so much James.

Thanks for the link, but your twweeets are protected from the likes of the unregistered me. P.S. It's the same interweb medium, just another host with a different set of restrictions. Ah welll, thank you for not bringing down this particular house of cards yet!

Re: More Thread space By James on 8/6/2009 9:50 AM
Syl, I'm not sure why the well dried up all of a sudden last year. I can make guesses as to why but they would be exactly that -- guesses. For a while I was struggling to fill up the pages but wanted to get through my 10th anniversary and write about our trip to NH. I'm not sure if it's coincidence that I stopped writing after a dear friend passed away not long after that. With all that being said, I killed the blog once before and it came back in this form. I'm sure I'll be writing again soon but for the time being FB and Twitter reach a larger (albeit brief and superficial) audience.

Re: More Thread space By Erich on 8/7/2009 10:41 AM
I know why...The last remaining brain cell died after a particularly good local microbrew. Now the drool gets on the keyboard and his court-appointed guardian makes sure lil' Jimmy doesn't hurt himself!

Thank you, James. I believe I am also somewhat selfishly missing the regular love - and also, the regular man type love like right there. [grin] It's suh-weet...and makes me smile. Okay then, I can be patient, you'll see. <smooch>

Sigh.... stupid end of season, I don't like it at all. Gorgeous day here, sigh, should be about 75 and we have club level passes. Okay, I'm going to have an EXcellent day. Wheeeeee i adore the baseball. Cheers!

Re: More Thread space By James on 1/14/2010 11:03 AM
Jay is looking more and more like a douche and I hope Conan not only gets a huge buyout but I want Leno to fail miserably and for Conan to do great if Fox does a late night now.

It looks like it has been a whole 5 days since I checked out this place.
Leno is the best thing for late night since sliced white bread. He will make everyone else go the way of Arsenio and Kilborn. Whoever says otherwise needs to go on a rant!!

More Late Night buyout options By Syl on 1/22/2010 1:54 AM

Leno simply sucks.

Re: More Thread space By Muuurph on 1/22/2010 6:07 PM
Watched Conan last night, the first time I've watched any of them in years. I accidentally came across him between periods of the mighty Blackhawks game. DVRed it and came back after the victory. It was pretty damned funny. I'm actually amazed NBC is letting him continue on as he's having a field day with it. Robin Williams came on and immediately flipped off the NBC Tower in the (fake) background and pretended to show them his willie. Then he pretty much tore NBC a new one the whole time he was on. It was like he was saying everything Conan couldn't say himself. Tonight should be a treat. I can't see Leno possibly raising the ratings at all after this. This thing really blew up in NBC's face. Carson and Paar must be rolling over in their graves right about now, or maybe just looking down on this and laughing their asses off.d
