If you don’t know what I’m going to talk about today, you don’t know me that well. For the first time since I was in 6th grade, my boyhood baseball team has made the World Series. While it was a surprising sweep against a very good A’s team that all of a sudden forgot to hit, the ending couldn’t have been any more dramatic. Tied up at 3, bottom of the ninth, 2 men on base, 1-0 count on Magglio Ordonez against Huston Street and he hits one halfway to Ford Field. I love when you can tell on TV, simply by the swing of the bat and before they show the trajectory, when a ball is absolutely a home run. I must have replayed the play on my DVR over 10 times on Saturday night.
Somehow this team manages to win ballgames in every fashion imaginable – a trait that reminds me of last year’s championship White Sox team. I’m not sure which National League team I’d like to see face the Tigers. I’m leaning towards wanting the Cardinals to be there so we can have a rematch of the 1968 World Series. While I’d hate to see another World Series game hosted in that dump of a stadium in Flushing (how appropriate), it would also be neat to see the Tigers have the chance to beat BOTH of New York’s baseball teams! I’m curious if that has ever happened, although it must have at some point when a non-New York team beat the Giants or Dodgers and then the Yankees (or vice versa) back before the Giants and Dodgers relocated.
And while I still think it’s a retarded rule, having the American League win the All Star Game now works in the Tigers favor since they will have home field advantage. Hmmm, the Designated Hitter will appear for possibly 4 games. (begin dripping sarcasm) What a horrible spectacle to have to see professional hitters take at bats away from undeserving pitcher-batters. (end dripping sarcasm)
While I thirst for yet another World Series title in my lifetime, this season has been such an unexpected wonderful surprise, anything they do now is an added bonus. But that doesn’t mean I still don’t want them to pound the dog piss out of whatever team they face. |

| I missed Game 4, but did watch the rest of the ALCS... The Tigers are playing like champions, and pounding every team into submission. And as I told you earlier, my prediction is coming true: the winner of the NY/Det seriers will win the WS. I actually hope they kick some Mets ass (assuming NY doesn't fold before the house of Cards) |

| My only regret... Ernie should have been making the call. How sweet would that be? |

" I must have replayed the play on my DVR over 10 times on Saturday night." ...
And that's 7 more times than he replayed Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction ... |

| The Tigers are playing like champs...they must have learned a lot from watching the White Sox last year! Keep the trophy nice and warm and conveniently located in the Midwest, so it can be sent back to its rightful owner on the south side of Chicago next year. |

| Cubby: Where are the White Sox this year? Who cares? I still got to see them win it all once in my life time, can you say that about your team? Where are the Cubs this year? Oh yeah, giving anothe manager MLBs version of a golden parachute-enjoy the semi retirement Lou. Oh and they're also off looking for 3 SP, a CF, 2B, closer..... |

| It's worse for the Giants (and I'm sure you all care...), we need all that plus LF and a Manager. |

Cubby/Motown/Flavor of the Day: You don't want to go around impersonatiing a Cub fan. Fat, Drunk and Stupid is no way to go through life son.
Of course even if you're a Tigers fan, you really shouldn't talk too much smack to us until you've won everything. There's only 1 champion, everyone else is in 2nd place. |

| Believe me, you won't get any "it's in the bag" comments from me until the Series is over. I'm very superstitious about stuff like that. I won't be thrilled to hear Joe "Cardinals Announcer" Buck do the World Series if the Cards advance tonight, but that's beyond anyone's control. |

Among other findings:
The Yankees were the team fans most liked to root against, 40 percent.
_ The New York Yankees [also] most fans rooted for, 14 percent, followed by the Atlanta Braves, 10 percent and Boston Red Sox, 9 percent.
The AP-AOL Sports poll of 2,002 adults... The poll has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2 percentage points for all adults... |
