The
park by us was busier than normal on Saturday morning and I had initially
attributed it to the Saturday morning kid soccer leagues playing. Then I noticed there were a bunch of
display-style tents pitched on the basketball court. As my daughter and I were playing catch, I
noticed an unnatural amount of wiener dogs passing by us on the way to the
tents. It was then that I realized it
was a wiener dog convention.
Now,
it was memorable enough to see 200+ wiener dogs in one area, but what made a
mark in my memory bank was the fact that these damn dogs were all dressed up in
their Halloween best!! I’m sure most of
you have gotten an email at one point with the title “Why pets kill their
owners”, followed by 10 or so pictures of dogs being dressed up in outlandish
garb that makes you feel embarrassed for those pets. There were wiener dogs dressed up in hula
skirts, devil horns, leopard prints – you name it, they were dressed in it.
Of
course there had to be one weird owner who tops them all and the dual-dog baby
carriage was the clear winner in the These People Think Their Dogs Are Human
category. What a bunch of weirdos, but
at least it wasn’t a Chihuahua Convention.
These wiener dogs thankfully aren’t as yappy as other midget dogs with a
shriek bark and a Napoleon Complex.
Those are the ones that I don’t feel bad that they eventually become the
meat in my “mu shu pork” from my local Chinese restaurant.
